We have a lot of family (grandparents, great grandparents, aunts & cousins) overseas who we don’t get to see or talk to often, our kids can often feel distant from their family and miss them, so this sort of app has great potential for this. There are so many different circumstances in which it can be useful, parents who work late or have to be away from home for periods of time, teaching kids the words to prayers (such as the Muslim sleeping and waking prayers), I’m sure there are endless different ways families can use it. ACT’s Executive Director Morgan Reed testified  10/05/2011 before the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade on Protecting Children’s Privacy in a Electronic World. He highlighted apps by developers in  the Committee Member’s districts. Wee Pray – Pray with Me was mentioned for Congressman Butterfield’s district.

“For Congressman Butterfield’s district, we’ve got Wee Pray – Pray with Me which is a special app for the iPad that allows grandparents to record a prayer for their child so that if they’re away, if they’re out of state, if they can’t see them, the child can hear their voice. It’s also used by parents deployed overseas and folks who are just on business trips. What a great App!

I thought this app was a nice way for family members to share messages with children.  I can see this being used when a parent is traveling, living far away from friends and family, parents who can’t be home for bedtime due to work, or during a military deployment.  I look forward to recording messages and pictures and using the app in the future with my family.
